Lake Charles Man Killed in Three-Vehicle Acadia Parish Crash

Crowley – On September 16, 2026, shortly before 8:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a three-vehicle crash on Louisiana Hwy 13 near ORO Trail Road. The crash claimed the life of a 38-year-old male of Lake Charles.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 GMC Terrain was traveling south on LA Hwy 13. At the same time, a 2011 Dodge Nitro was traveling north on LA Hwy 13. For reasons still under investigation, both vehicles crossed the centerline and collided. Following the initial impact, the Dodge struck a 2019 Volkswagen Atlas that was parked on the southbound shoulder while assisting a disabled vehicle.

The driver and passenger of the GMC, who were both unrestrained, sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Dodge, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The passenger of the Dodge, who was properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. An adult passenger and two juvenile passengers in the Volkswagen were uninjured.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained from the driver of the Dodge and submitted for analysis. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor for the driver of the GMC; however, the crash remains under investigation.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state. Louisiana State Police urge all motorists to make responsible choices when driving: avoid impairment, fatigue, and distractions. Follow traffic laws and ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained. While not all crashes are preventable, simple precautions like these can save lives.
