Jena Woman Killed in Ouachita Parish Pedestrian Crash

Monroe – On Saturday, September 12, 2026, shortly after 5:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 165 at Dellwood Drive. The crash claimed the life of 22-year-old Tania Hamilton of Jena.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2019 Ford F-350 was traveling north on U.S. Highway 165, in the right lane. At the same time, Hamilton was walking across the northbound lane of U.S. 165. For reasons still under investigation, Hamilton was struck by the Ford.

Hamilton suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Ford was properly restrained and uninjured. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police urge both pedestrians and motorists to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while on or near roadways. Crashes involving pedestrians are often preventable when basic safety measures are observed. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing, avoid dark roadways, and assume drivers may not see them. They should also cross in well-lit areas and walk facing oncoming traffic to improve visibility and reduce risk. These simple steps can help enhance pedestrian safety.
